There might be faeries in the mist. To this day, the realm of the elves also known as faeries or the Sidhe are most evident in the frontiers of a moment such as the sudden appearance of a rainbow or twilight, the emergence of a mist or the first cast of a Moon shadow. The First Book of Secrets is a collection of legends and mysteries that are contained within a sacred mountain range called “The Monashee”. These mountains hold stories few have heard and places that even fewer have seen.
Storyteller D.H.Elzer has compiled these stories within this first volume of the Monashee Almanac Series. Natural history, sacred places, legends, mysteries and historical accounts are all contained within these pages.
Elzer has found evidence that this may have been the place where legendary Tír na nÓg of ancient Druid lore may have been located.
Tír na nÓg was considered a place beyond the edges of the map, located on an island far to the west. It could be reached by either an arduous voyage or an invitation from one of its faerie residents. It is said that this otherworld is a place where sickness and death do not exist. It is a place of eternal youth and beauty. Here; music, strength, life, and all pleasurable pursuits come together, poverty does not exist and happiness lasts forever.
In this book, Elzer gets readers to imagine a magical part of history that will make them more curious about exploring the world around them.
The First Book of Secrets is part of the Monashee Almanac Series which shares history, mysteries and stories about early British Columbia and in particular the Monashee, Okanagan and Shuswap. The series encourages exploration into the lesser-known parts of the past by presenting larger than life stories told by great storytellers. Through our e-book series we present history to adults and children through engagement and creative illustrations.
D.H.Elzer is a storyteller who has traveled deep into the Monashee Mountains. He is largely influenced by his close connection to nature in the rural and remote areas of British Columbia and western North America. Elzer has been refining his craft for the past 35 years. He is a wildcrafter who has become well-known for his inventions using natural materials and wild botanicals found in nature – and he is known for his ability to wander off the beaten path.
