Presented within an Online Program and 5 Day Certification Camp: A Sanctuary Forest represents a location where stewardship is taking place which seeks to protect, expand or rewild the natural biodiversity of a place. A Sanctuary Forest is also seen as a spiritual centre where the stewards of the place have created a sentient relationship with all of the biotic beings located there. A Sanctuary Forest can be located on private or public land and is largely placed there by the sheer will, of those individuals willing to steward that place. A Sanctuary Forest is created upon certain pillars that include stewardship, science, sentience, spirit and sanctuary.

Removing nature from our everyday lives has reached epidemic proportions as human civilization has become more urbanized. This is causing us to actually lose sight of both trees and the forest. This element of nature deficit disorder is called “plant blindness” and it represents an informally-proposed form of cognitive bias, which in its broadest meaning, is a human tendency to ignore plant species.
This includes such phenomena as not noticing plants in the surrounding environment, not recognizing the importance of plant life to the whole biosphere and to human affairs, a philosophical view of plants as an inferior form of life compared to animals and/or the inability to appreciate the unique features or aesthetics of plants.
When autumn arrives in the forest a vertical presence links the sky with the roots of things. Leaves have succumbed to the elements of fate and all of the once dense center has vanished – we are presented with a universe less defined within a breeze. This condition exposes things that were once hidden from view – it is our chance to see the magic that lives - inside the magic.
Explore the magic of nature during the autumn and winter. At the Wildcraft Forest School we offer a number of our certification programs within weekend segments during the autumn and winter.
Years ago in the 1960’s Peter Farb author of "Mans Rise to Civilization" said, “The revival of shamanism in the United States is probably symptomatic of the weakening of orthodox religion’s ability to regulate social behavior and to maintain social values – and of the lack of any stirring new philosophy or ethic to replace the vacuum left by traditional religions.”
At the Wildcraft Forest School we have been delivering a Shamanic Coaching Program for over a decade. This contemporary form of Shamanism focuses on a pan-spiritual approach to life linked to ancient wisdom and wild mysticism. The school has been constructed upon the Shamanic teachings held by a very old Mystery School.
This article describes our 12 Session Shamanic Coaching Program.
Every day we are reminded that we touch and connect with intelligent life forms that include plants, trees, animals and even the landscape all of which we are only beginning to understand. We are in an age that I like to call “First Contact”, and here in the forest we seek to make contact and invest in the cosmic intelligence that surrounds us. An intelligence that we are opening ourselves up to – one that we are preparing for because it is intertwined with our future.
As a cognitive bias this can actually negatively impact our mental and physical health as well as how we socially interact with each other and the world around us. Cognitive biases can affect one’s decision-making skills, limit problem-solving abilities, hamper career success, damage the reliability of memories, and can challenge one’s ability to respond in crisis situations. The condition can also increase anxiety and depression, and impair one’s relationships.
At the Wildcraft Forest School we teach people to become Yasei Shinrin Yoku Guides and Practitioners and we have even developed a clinical program connected to this practice which takes a wilder approach to forest therapy but also combines with forms of Earth-based spiritually and practical applications of stewardship. Yasei is now being delivered in over 30 countries.
Our world both locally and globally is in a great transition so it becomes important to plan our lives so that we can continue to survive and thrive during these challenging times.
